Chasteberry ( Agnus Castus)goes by many names, which often causes confusion. The same herb is called Agnus Castus , Vitex , Chaste Berry, Chaste Tree Berry, and Chasteberry ! The plant this herb comes from is a small tree that is indigenous to the Mediterranean region. It is an attractive bush with finger-like leaves and thin violet, blue or pink flowers. The berry is also called Monk s pepper and has a pepper-like flavor. The active constituents include flavonoids, iridoid glycosides and essential oils (limonene, cineol, pinene, and sabinene). It is known for promoting overall health and balance in women s cycles.
